Torchy’s Tacos in Raleigh

An amazing Texas original has been brought to North Carolina. What started off as a must-visit food truck in trendy Austin has become a state-wide favorite all over Texas and it’s now branching out to other states. If you’re ready for some “Damn Good Tacos” - then get ready for a mouth-watering visit to Torchy’s Tacos in Raleigh located at the trendy new Midtown East.

I’ve lived in Austin for the last 10 years and I am a frequent visitor to this tasty establishment. They know good flavors and their queso is out of this world. In fact, whenever I host a gathering, I always stop by Torchy’s to get plenty of their famous Queso, Guacamole, and chips to really spice up the party.

Torchy’s Tacos knows what they’re good at and they stick to it. They do all things Tacos and delectable sides - if you haven’t figured it out yet, I am a superfan of their queso! You can find a wonderful variety of tasty tacos and a decent drink selection. The great thing about Torchy’s is they don’t just serve up the same everyday tacos you can find anywhere. They get creative and put together tacos that keep you coming back for more like their Baja Shrimp or Fried Avocado tacos.

My personal favorite is the Trailer Park. If you ask them to make it “Trashy,” they’ll remove the lettuce and smother it with queso. Sorry diet - not today. I also like going to Torchy’s for their breakfast tacos. I enjoy their Jalapeno Cheddar Sausage, Egg, and Cheese breakfast taco but my friends swear by the Wrangler.

Torchy’s also has a Taco of the Month. I joined their email club so I could be alerted every time they released a new flavor on their menu. Jami thinks I am a bit over the top.  My favorite Taco of the Month is the Skallywag which comes with coconut-battered shrimp, bacon, green chiles, pickled onions, jack cheese, cilantro and scratch-made peach habanero jam on a flour tortilla. Check out their website regularly for their other Tacos of the Month.

If you’ve ever been to Texas, then I’m sure you’ve heard the brouhaha around Torchy’s Tacos. If you’d like to taste the hype for yourself, go check out Torchy’s Tacos in Raleigh and show them a Little Local Love!

A little about me - I am the Director of Operations for Jami Amidon & Co. I love traveling and exploring new places. I’ve lived in many different states and even other countries. In each place I’ve lived or visited, I was on the hunt for the unique local joints - the local shops and flavors that the locals know and love. It doesn’t matter if it was Texas, North Carolina, or Japan - I wanted to experience the best things the local businesses had to offer.

I currently live in and love Texas, but I’ll be moving to Arizona next month (unless Jami has it her way and convinces me that North Carolina is my next home - haha!). I’ve had the privilege of living in North Carolina for a short time and I go back periodically for work trips and to visit my work family. I’ve come to love all that NC has to offer and can’t wait to share my take of the local shops and cuisine. Jami and I will be tag-teaming these articles showcasing the best of the region. We both love everything local and we hope you find your new favorite local hot spot.
