Lake Benson Park in Garner

If you live in Johnston County, chances are you’ve heard of the Lake Benson Park in Garner. If you haven’t been there in person, let me be the one to tell you what you’ve been missing!

First of all, the park is huge! It’s 64 acres with wide open spaces for you and your family or friends to enjoy all kinds of activities. Secondly, the lake is wonderful! Fishing, Kayaking, Canoeing, or just spending some time on the walking trails by the water are all fun ways to keep you in touch with nature!

The park has a beautiful Garner Veterans Memorial that you must visit. It’s got plenty of flags and a sense of American Pride around Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day every year. The park also hosts town events, including a 4th of July Firework extravaganza every year - although make sure you check their schedule because they often do the fireworks on July 3rd.

My favorite activity at the Lake Benson Park in Garner is the dog park. It has areas for big and small dogs which I appreciate. There are definitely regulars who go there so you get to know the dogs and their owners pretty well. Yay for doggy play dates!

If you’re looking for some fun activities, you can enjoy the almost 2 miles of walking trails and rent a kayak or canoe from the park. They also have plenty of picnic areas with grills to host a variety of parties with family and friends. There are playgrounds for the kiddos, restrooms, and of course, fishing. There’s something about being out on the lake and fishing that makes all of the weekday stresses just melt away.

I appreciate that they host Family Movie Nights at the park. Just bring some folding chairs, blankets, and some friends and you’ve got the makings of a night to remember.

Make sure you pack up the family and head to Lake Benson Park for a day of fun in the sun. Highlighting awesome parks like this is just one way we like to spread A Little Local Love!
